AI translation review: what you should know
Why AI translation needs a human check
AI translates fast, and the output almost always looks smooth. That's the catch: errors in machine translation don't stand out. Mixed-up figures, wandering terms, a missing caveat in a contract or a polite but completely unnatural sentence in a letter to a partner all tend to surface too late, after the document has been sent.
The international standard ISO 18587 calls this work post-editing of machine translation and requires it to be done by a qualified translator. We do full post-editing: the result should be as good as a translation done from scratch.
How we work
- We look at the file and assess its quality. If the machine translation can be fixed, we quote a price and deadline. If not, we tell you honestly that translating from scratch makes more sense.
- We check it against the original. Every sentence, not a sample.
- We fact-check. A separate pass for names, titles, numbers, dates and units.
- We sort out terms and style. We build a mini-glossary and remove calques and machine phrasing.
- We deliver with Track Changes. You see every correction and can accept or reject it.
When a review is enough and when you need translation
A review works well for business correspondence, internal documents, product descriptions, articles and presentations, as long as the machine translation gets the meaning across overall. For contracts, medical texts and advertising slogans we usually recommend translation from scratch: the cost of an error is too high, and the machine text would need rewriting almost entirely.
